Fill your cup first

Many of my gorgeous patients are mums, and life as a mum is certainly very full.
There are always plenty of needs that have to be met, which can leave very little time for yourself. However, your own self care needs to come first mummas, and here is why!
You can't give from an empty cup. As mums we need to truly look after ourselves, which then allows us to be the best we can be for those that we love.

Here are some simple ways that I've found work wonders in helping me avoid becoming overwhelmed, grumpy and exhausted.
1.Take a deep breath in through your nose. It instantly puts your nervous system into rest and repair mode, and most mums need that more than once throughout the day.
2. Get outside in nature, you won't regret it. We all need to get outside more for our health; science is now showing us that it helps with everything from helping your moods, to getting a better nights sleep.
3. Take supplements, especially whilst breastfeeding. Babies take so much from our bodies, and breastfeeding does too. It's essential to top up the nutrients required for both you and your baby.
4. Eat Nourishing food. That sounds obvious I know, but I can't tell you how many mums I've seen in my clinic who say that they don't have time to feed themselves. Make it a priority to make a plate for yourself alongside the ones you make for your kids.
5. Practice a nourishing night time routine. You could diffuse pure essential oils, try some journaling, have a quiet cup of herbal tea, or a long slow bath. Find what feels good to you and practice it!
It's really just about finding the little things that you can incorporate into your day, that help you feel cared for and grounded within yourself.
