Functional medical testing

Functional medicine testing is an integral part of what I do as a Naturopath.

It is a specific window into the intricate workings of your body, which gives us answers about things like:

-Your bodies energy creation cycle and what factors are missing to allow this to function optimally

-Your neurotransmitter function, and where things might be going wrong

-Your microbiome, and whether you have any bacterial or yeast overgrowth. We can even assess what treatments your particular overgrowth will be responsive too.

-What vitamins, minerals and co-factors you may be missing or deficient in.

-How your liver is functioning, and what its detoxification pathways are doing

-What genes you have that may cause you to be more susceptible to things, for example wheat, mould and caffeine

By working out what is going on for you, we can personalise your treatment plan.

Testing

DNA testing is a sophisticated investigative tool which identifies variations in chromosomes, genes and proteins, otherwise known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) through obtaining a non-invasive sample from the body. Your unique report will identify your genes that have been found to influence behavior, diet and mental health.

Blood testing- analyzing your blood test to ensure you sit in the optimal health range, incorporating treatments to avoid falling into the sick range

OATS test- The Organic Acids Test (OAT) offers a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of a patient’s overall health with 76 markers. It provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Abnormally high levels of these microorganisms can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, fatigue and immune function. Many people with chronic illnesses and neurological disorders often excrete several abnormal organic acids in their urine. The cause of these high levels could include oral antibiotic use, high sugar diets, immune deficiencies, acquired infections, as well as genetic factors.

Our Organic Acids Test also includes markers for vitamin and mineral levels, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter levels, and is the only OAT to include markers for oxalates, which are highly correlated with many chronic illnesses.

If abnormalities are detected using the OAT, treatments can include supplements, such as vitamins and antioxidants, or dietary modification. Upon treatment, patients and practitioners have reported significant improvement such as decreased fatigue, regular bowel function, increased energy and alertness, increased concentration, improved verbal skills, less hyperactivity, and decreased abdominal pain.
